Continuous porcelain paver surface

2018

Completed

The Barrett project is the largest footprint in this set, and the one where the material choice did the most work. Porcelain pavers run across the patios and the driveway, which keeps a very large area reading as one surface rather than a collection of zones.

Around the new pool sit retaining walls, an expansive outdoor kitchen and a water wall feature. At this scale the risk is a garden that feels like a car park with furniture on it, so the walls and planting break the ground into rooms while the paving holds it together.

Seen from above, which is how the drone photographs it, the geometry is the point. Seen from a chair by the pool, you mostly notice that everything is where you would reach for it.
